Centre Information

Winterhill Young People's Centre is located at the top of Little Common Lane opposite Winterhill Comprehensive School and next door to a large sports hall. There is also a BMX track at Winterhill Park which is close to the Centre. The building benefits from a modern fully fitted kitchen and a coffee bar. The centre has an open access design and is wheelchair accessible throughout with comfortable seating areas and learning spaces. The centre has regular access to the sports hall enabling young people to participate in a range of sport and fitness activities.

During our open access sessions young people can enjoy a variety of activities and curriculum including art and craft, sport, cooking, pool / table tennis, games, trips out, projects, music and art events, volunteering opportunities, residential programmes, accredited learning programmes and opportunities to have a voice around influencing delivery of services for young people.


What's On?

1:45 to 2:45pm - Targeted Boys group in conjunction with Winterhill school.(these dates and times are subject to change) The programme consists of 6 to 8 sessions, around internet safety, CSE awareness including 'Sexting', personal safety, positive relationships, emotional wellbeing, confidence and self- esteem, peer pressure and healthy lifestyles.

3:00 to 5:00pm – Targeted Group – 13 – 16yrs – Vulnerable young people's group (referrals only) offering support around issues such as: self harm, body image, personal hygiene, mental and emotional wellbeing and much more. The session also includes food due to some young people's issues around food/eating disorders.

5.30 to 7.30pm – Active/Healthy Lifestyle group (yrs. 6 & 7) This is an open access group but with a targeted remit, looking at active and healthy lifestyles, working with Active Regen. It includes team building, football, dodgeball, quick cricket and looking at a balanced diet on a budget.

7.45pm to 8.45pm – Yrs. 11plus – enables young people to engage with positive role models, discuss any issues that they feel they need support with, have a game of pool, and will offer 'Sexual Health' sessions including Condom registration/distribution. It offers older young people some time out and space just for them, in a safe and supportive environment and will also offer Hot drinks/toast during winter months.

1:45 to 2:45pm - (these dates and times are subject to change) Targeted girls group in conjunction with Winterhill school. The programme consists of 6 to 8 sessions, around internet safety, CSE awareness including 'Sexting', personal safety, positive relationships, emotional wellbeing, confidence and self- esteem, peer pressure and healthy lifestyles.

6.00 to 9.00pm - Detached work - 3 youth workers out on foot in areas where the need has been identified, covering Kimberworth, Winterhill. Ferham and Masbrough. Young people have access to activities, refreshments, street safety, and healthy lifestyles. Also when there is access to the mobile (youth bus) Ferham Park, where young people can chill out with friends, and participate in art and craft activities, sports, Xbox games, fun learning and access support and information, street safety, trips and residentials.

6:00 to 9:00pm - Open Access - Available to Y8/9/& 10 only - Arts and craft activities, pool, table tennis,- use of sports hall, refreshments, cooking and baking activities, lifestyles, CSE Awareness, Safety online and looking after your mental health, volunteering opportunities, information, advice and guidance and support around career choices, training providers and apprenticeships. Such nights as: Halloween and Bonfire (Fawkes) celebrations, Diwali, Christmas etc….. (planned by the young attending) Daytime Targeted groups also in conjunction with School.

3.00 to 4.30pm – Drop-in - Sexual health and relationships for young people who wish to speak to workers around sexual health and/or relationships. Condom registration and distribution, chlamydia testing, sign posting onto the Sexual Health services/clinics around Pregnancy, STI;s and contraception.

Please note we can also run (as and when requested by referral) Evidence Based Groups: such as: 'Man Up' and 'Heads Up'
