Welcome to Rotherham Youth Cabinet!

Rotherham Youth Cabinet is an active voice representing all young people equally, in order to have a positive effect throughout our communities.

We aim to ensure all young people’s voices influence decisions made within Rotherham.

What does Rotherham Youth Cabinet do?

  • We express views on behalf of young people in Rotherham to ensure that their voices influence decisions within services for young people
  • We aim to develop an understanding of local issues
  • We undertake research to improve public facilities for young people
  • We ensure young people's views are canvassed to get their opinions of things that matter to them
  • We campaign on local issues that young people care about
  • We celebrate the achievements of young people in Rotherham
  • We communicate our findings with Elected Members, Senior Managers within RMBC and other decision makers
  • We participate in further democratic initiatives such as UK Youth Parliament

What does being a Member of Rotherham Youth Cabinet involve?

  • Six formal meetings per year at Rotherham Town Hall
  • Informal Training and Team Building Days during some school holidays
  • A chance to go on trips, visits and residentials
  • Opportunities to develop and be part of Sub Groups to research and campaign on issues that are important to young people.

 

Who can get involved?

Rotherham Youth Cabinet is open to young people aged between 11 and 18 who live in or attend school in Rotherham.

Each secondary school and College in Rotherham may appoint young people to join Rotherham Youth Cabinet.

Other young people can be elected onto Rotherham Youth Cabinet when there is currently no representation of a specific area - geographical, social or cultural.

What does being a Member of Rotherham Youth Cabinet involve?
